The decision of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum to give provisional degree certificates and transcripts of the engineering course after the revaluation process, has made some students opting to pursue higher studies at foreign universities jittery.
A student, who has got the conditional offer from a university in the United Kingdom, stipulates that the transcripts and semester marks card and provisional degree certificate should be produced by month end, is worried.
The student, who wished to remain anonymous, said: Last year the results were announced in July and immediately thereafter provisional degree certificates and the transcripts were given. This year, VTU is not even giving the application forms for the same. Since I have the conditional offer, I will have to submit those by month end and I’m worried.
After a student fulfils the conditional offer, the university processes his papers and they send an unconditional order and a letter of confirmation for studies. These two letters have to be shown to British High Commissioner for processing Visa.
According to British High Commission office website, the process of visa issue formalities takes about four to five weeks. The course starts mid-September. I have sought extension for date for submitting the transcripts and the provisional degree certificates, but have not heard from the university so far,” the student said.
VTU Vice Chancellor Dr H Maheshappa allayed the fears of students and assured that the revaluation results would be published online by Tuesday and the process of issuing transcripts and the provisional degree certificates would start immediately.
He recalled that last year the results were announced end of July. This year, to help students going for further studies at foreign universities the results were declared in June and the revaluation process is 90% over. This should get over by Monday. Never a university has given results so fast.
Regarding giving transcripts and the provisional degree certificates to those who did not apply for revaluation, Dr Maheshappa said we cannot give certificates randomly since they are printed college-wise and there would be mismatch of sequence numbers, which would lead to problems for students later. Rest assured, the students will get their certificates as soon as revaluation process is over.
