VTU released a new circular explaining that the mandatory Kannada course, carrying 1 credit, that will be studied by 2017 batch students in either 3rd or 4th semester is actually 2 different courses.
These are the two courses:
- Kannada Manasu – Comparatively advanced course among the two. You will study this if you did your schooling in Karnataka i.e., you already know how to read, write and talk in Kannada.
- Kannada Kali – Comparatively beginner level course among the two. You will study this if you do not know how to read, write and talk in Kannada.
Your college principal will decide appropriately and put your name in the one of the two lists.
For more details check out the official circular
P.S. If you are a student from one of the other states, you will likely neglect this course thinking that it will be of no use for your future. But it is very likely you will work in Bangalore or other cities in Karnataka after you graduate. So this is a good opportunity for you to understand and embrace the culture and language of the local people.
